Cheap Activities for Kids

Keeping the kids entertained can be expensive. But it doesn’t have to be.

We’ve come up with a few ideas the whole family can enjoy. Your kids and grandchildren will love these fun activities, and best of all, they won’t break the bank. Check out our Thrifty Family Fun list and start saving in 2017.

Movie Nights

Rent a DVD or purchase one that is on sale. Make your own popcorn at home and host a movie night. It’s much cheaper than going to the movie theater and you’ll be more comfortable in your own home.

Treasure Hunts

It might be cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t host a treasure hunt for your children and grandchildren. Get up early before your children wake up and organize a treasure hunt in your home. This is a great idea for Christmas day, as it will occupy kids for an hour or so until the rest of your family wakes up.

Baking Day

What better time to organize a baking day than during the holidays. Baking cupcakes, cookies and sweet treats at home will save you money and also keep the kids busy. If you really want to save money, choose recipes with ingredients you already have at home. Then visit the supermarket and only purchase the remaining ingredients you need. If you want to make a whole day of it, organize 3 or so recipes to cook and let you children help out wherever they can.

Board Games

It’s difficult to find activities for your children during Winter. Generally, you have to rule out all outdoor activities, as the weather isn’t very good. Which means your kids are stuck inside all day. Keep them occupied with an activity that is challenging, such as board games and card games. If your kids are tired of the board games you have at home, organize a swap between families in your street. This helpful tip will save you paying full price for brand new board games.

Arts & Crafts

Using materials you already have at home, host an arts and crafts day. The key to saving money is using materials you probably already have at home, such as cardboard boxes, toilet rolls, shoe boxes, markers, old fabric and yarn.
